Today, many Bloggers sadly believe all they need to be successful is a high RSS subscriber count. This may be true for a few A-list bloggers, but for the Average Joe Blogger, you’ll need traffic coming from the search engines to be successful. I think it’s safe to say many people get into blogging to earn money. When the traffic doesn’t come then the money doesn’t follow. Failing to take advantage of search engine is one reason so many people fail at blogging.

Learning how to optimize your blog takes very little time and effort. In fact, it can be done in a few keystrokes and it can pay back huge dividends for the little time and effort it requires. One of the biggest things you can do to take advantage of blogs is to ensure your keywords show up in your url. This tells the search engines what your post is about. If they have a hard time figuring out what your post is about, then you’re not likely get the ranking you need. Keep post keyword optimized and don’t stray far from the subject for maximum results.

Blogger dot com is set to show your post keywords in the url’s. In WordPress you’ll need to change the Permalink structure. You’ll do this under the Permalinks tab in your WordPress dashboard. Simply set the Custom field to percent sign – postname – percent sign. (without the dashes)

Your next assignment is to make sure your keywords are in the Title of the Blog. With Blogger, you do this when you set up your blog. The keywords should be used as the Name of the Blog and in the URL of the blog. In WordPress, you can set the Title of the Blog under the Settings tab. Hopefully, you were thinking ahead and have some of the keywords used in your domain name as well.

The 3rd SEO Tip is to use keywords in your Post Titles when you write. By doing this, the keywords will show up in the URL and on the page, making it easier for the Search Engine bots to figure out what your trying to say. Keep your post in subject. Don’t ramble on about several different subjects or you’ll confuse the bots. They’ll then be confused as to how to rank your post and you may find it buried in the search results.
